Description
The Transcend TS8XDVDS-K Extra Slim Portable DVD Writer provides an external optical drive solution for compatible computers that do not have a built-in disc drive. It allows users to access supported CDs and DVDs, install software supplied on optical discs, create data discs and maintain physical backups of important files.
Designed with portability in mind, this black DVD writer measures 142.8 x 148.0 x 13.9 mm and weighs 264 g according to the manufacturer's current product specifications. Its slim construction makes it suitable for carrying alongside a notebook computer or storing in a laptop bag when an optical drive is needed away from the desk.
The drive uses a USB 2.0 connection with a mini USB to USB Type-A cable interface. USB power eliminates the need for a separate external power adapter under supported operating conditions. For reliable operation, connect it directly to a compatible computer and use suitable USB connections rather than an unspecified USB hub or extension cable.
For disc creation, the TS8XDVDS-K supports DVD writing speeds of up to 8x for DVD+R and DVD-R media, up to 8x for DVD+RW media, up to 6x for DVD-RW and dual-layer DVD+R DL and DVD-R DL media, and up to 5x for DVD-RAM. Supported CD-R and CD-RW media can be written at up to 24x. Actual performance depends on the disc format, media quality, computer configuration and software being used.
The drive supports a range of optical media, including DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD+R DL, DVD-R DL, DVD-RAM, CD-R and CD-RW. It can read and write supported dual-layer discs, providing additional storage capacity compared with single-layer discs. Compatible media playback also depends on the computer, operating system and suitable playback software.
The TS8XDVDS-K is a practical choice for users who need a portable DVD writer for occasional disc access, software installation, data archiving or transferring files using recordable optical media.
